The History of the Kallisté Hotel – From the Ceinturon to L'Ayguade

Louise Paviot, « La Marquise » — The founding spirit of L'Ayguade

Albertine Louise Paviot is born in 1891 in Lyon. Very early, she understands that luck is seized through boldness and work. In an era that imposes silence and submission on women, she chooses independence — at the cost of scandal and conventions.

Marriage, divorce, assuméed loves: each éstep brings her closer to freedéom that'she claims as a natural right. In 1920, she arrives à Hyères et à L'Ayguade, et c'est une révélation. Ce bout de littoral méditerranéen préservé, entre pinède et mer turquoise, devient son terrain de jeu et son ambition.

Nicknamed« The Marquise » by the locals, she embodies à alone the drive of Roaring Twenties — this era of freedom, carefree spirit and inventiveness that sweeps over the Côte d'Azur. Woman of the people as much as woman of the world, she mêles all social classes in her établissements, mixing artists, notables and ordinary people in one même fête méditerranéenne.

She creates hotels, dance halls and grand parties that make L'Ayguade a place of life and pleasure. Among her works, theHôtel Ceinturon — which will become, a century later, the Hotel Le Kallisté.

The war, the Resistance and the reconstruction

World War II brutally shatters Louise Paviot's momentum. Her work is destroyed, her establishments devastated. But her will remains intact.

Engagée in the Résistance, she takes considerable risks. Arrested, then freed by chance, she goes through the war with the same determination that has always driven her.

À the Liberation, she rebuilds everything — with the same energy, the same boldness, the same love of life that made her La Marquise de L'Ayguade. Louise Paviot leaves à Hyères the image of a free, courageous woman deeply attached to this corner of the Mediterranean.

A new page for l'Hôtel Ceinturon

Born in Hyères, I arrive at L'Ayguade at the age of 3. This seaside district becomes my anchor, my territory, my horizon.

Daughter of a baker, I grow up with a sense of service and l'hospitality. Commerce s'impose naturally — as a évidence, as a héritage. I am training in financial managèement and human resources to support SMEs, before joining l'family business.

During 10 years, I run a bakery of 24 employees. This experience shapes my taste for management, rigor and human relations. It teaches me that success lies in the details — and in the sincerity of the welcome. After the sale, I decide to follow a longstanding dream: hospitality. L'opportunity to acquire the Hôtel Ceinturon à L'Ayguade presents itself then — this establishment with such a particular destiny, founded a century earlier by a bold woman on this same seashore.

Today, I am proud to be the manager and to welcome you with passion, under the name ofHôtel-Restaurant Le Kallisté — in homage to this place, its history, and all those who have made it live.
